Curriculum Vitæ
Günter K. Auernhammer studied physics at the Universität Bayreuth (Germany) and Université Denis Diderot (Paris, France). He obtained his diploma under the supervision of Prof. H. R. Brand with a theoretical thesis on thermal convection in a rotation layer of a magnetic fluid. During his PhD, he worked again with Prof. H. R. Brand at Bayreuth but also in close collaboration with Prof. H. Pleiner at the Max-Planck-Institut für Polymerforschung. In 2004 he obtained his PhD with a thesis on instabilities in layered liquids, like smectic liquid crystals and blockcoplymers. As a Postdoc he switched to experiments and first jointed the group of PD Dr. D. Vollmer at the Max-Planck-Institut für Polymerforschung. There he became interested on phase separation kinetics of binary mixtures under continuously ramping the temperature. As an Individual Marie Curie Fellow he joined the group of Dr. P. Martinoty at the Institute de Mécanique des Fluides et des Solides (Strasbourg, France) for two years. There he mainly studied magnetic colloids embedded in polymeric matrices, especially uniaxial magnetic sols and gels and their mechanical and optical properties. At the Max-Planck-Institut für Polymerforschung he is now heading an experimental group focusing on dynamics of soft matter. His current research interests include instabilities in and influences of external fields on soft matter systems.
