Statussymposium of the Initiative "New Conceptual Approaches to Modeling and Simulation of Complex Systems" of the Volkswagen Foundation
21.-23. September 2009, Mainz (Germany)
Aim
of the 2nd Statussymposium of the initiative “New Conceptual Approaches
to Modeling and Simulation of Complex Systems: Computer Simulation of
Molecular and Cellular Bio-Systems as well as Complex Soft Matter" is
the presentation of results and ongoing research of the projects funded
within the initiative as well as the discussion of future challenges
and perspectives in theory and modeling of complex systems.
Gaining
a better understanding of complex soft matter systems ranging from cell
biology to synthetic materials often requires interdisciplinary
approaches including physics, chemistry, biology as well as mathematics
or material science. Exchange between experts in the different
disciplines as well as exchange between method development and
application projects is essential for successful modeling approaches to
these systems.
This exchange both between different projects
within the initiative and with invited external experts in the field is
the major goal of this symposium which will cover sessions on:
- Simulation of soft matter systems
- Biological systems
- Biomembranes
- QM and QM/MM approaches
- Development of methods
Confirmed invited speakers
Cecilia Clementi, Rice University, Houston, Texas
Reinhard Lipowsky, Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Potsdam, Germany
Marcus Mueller, Gerorg August Universitaet Goettingen, Germany
Eric Vanden-Eijnden, New York University
The Symposium is organized by:
Christine Peter and Kurt Kremer: Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research
and
Ulrike Bischler: Volkswagen Foundation.
