open positions in AK Müllen

The Mullen group has continuously open positions for diploma, master and PhD students as well as for postdoctoral fellows in the different scientific fields presented on the webpages. However, we are not able to provide positions for internships.

The research topics supervised by different project leaders are mainly in the field of organic and polymer synthesis, covering the areas of

graphenes (Xinliang Feng )
dendrimers and conjugated polymers (Martin Baumgarten
dyes (Long Chen )
bioinspired materials (Kalina Peneva )
inorganic-organic hybrid systems (Hermann Sachdev )
nanoparticles and catalysis (Markus Klapper ).

As we are a synthetic group, only a limited number of positions are available for materials chemists and physicists in areas such as

CVD / PVD methods (Hermann Sachdev ),
mass spectrometry (Joachim Rader ) and
organic field-effect transistors and supramolecular organization (Wojciech Pisula

We are not advertising each position separately as our research is quite dynamic and we seek to meet specific needs as they arise.

We offer you research projects at the frontier of polymer and material sciences in an excellent scientific environment. Completion of a thesis in a short amount of time is typical, due to access to the best equipment and the possibility to interact with experts in many neighboring fields. Collaborative projects with high-ranking international groups all over the world will enable you to discuss your results and to present your work outside of the institute, even before completing you PhD. Our excellent contacts with industry provide the possibility to establish early relationships with potential employers.

We expect from the applicants degrees in chemistry or physics with the highest levels of achievement demonstrated. The ability to communicate effectively with other scientists not only within the group but also in the outside community is mandatory. As such, fluency in both spoken and written English is required (in an ideal case proven by an independent language test). A demonstrated ability to interact and integrate in the international environment of the Max Planck-Institute for Polymer Research is also a prime criteria for selection.

The pdf application file must contain an application letter, detailing which area you are applying for and highlighting your qualifications for such a position, and full CV, which should include all biographical data including the supervisor and title of any completed thesis or previous research. Please do not include copies of theses or publications; rather include direct links allowing online access via the webpages of the corresponding international journals. Please note that your application should not exceed 2 MB.

We receive a large number of applications per year, making it impossible to answer all of them directly.
