THz Spectroscopy

Time-domain terahertz (THz) spectroscopy

Prof. Dr. Mischa Bonn

A comprehensive review of world-wide efforts in THz spectroscopy on semiconductor systems which includes reports of our own work, can be found in the recently published review paper:
Carried dynamics in semiconductor studied with time-resolved terahertz spectroscopy

We further use THz spectroscopy to study the dynamics of molecules in aqueous solutions, combined with a combination of other spectroscopic techniques such as ultrafast infrared (fs-IR) and dielectric spectroscopies (FD-GHz). These techniques allow us to trace the motion of water molecules in real-time. We have for example used this approach to shed new light on the structure and dynamics of water around different types of ions, i.e. ion hydration.
