In the Institute, four Bruker solid state NMR spectrometers are available, operating at different field strength :
The individual equipment of the different instruments is presented below.
The 300 MHz Super Wide Bore System
The 300 MHz
NMR system is equipped with a xyz-gradient system and micro imaging probes. The magnet with bore of 130 mm diameter
provides sufficient space, for imaging experiment of bigger objects with home build probes. The console is a Bruker
Avance II console with two 1 kW linear amplifier for ¹H and X channel. A third channel can be added, if needed and
numerous probes are available for the 300 MHz magnet system. The most frequently used probes are listed below.
| Probe | Frequency Range | Temperature Range |
| 2.5 mm MAS ¹H-X | 1-H; 31-P .. 2-H | VTN : 230 - 400 K |
| 2 x 4 mm MAS ¹H-X | 1-H; 31-P .. 2-H | VTN : 200 - 400 K |
| 7 mm MAS ¹H-X | 1-H; 31-P .. 6-Li | VTN : 200 - 400 K |
| 7 mm MAS ¹H-¹³C-²H | 1-H; 13-C; 2-H | VTN : 200 - 400 K |

| 7 mm static ²H | 2-H optimized | VT : 200 - 450 K |
| ¹H Micro Imaging | 1-H; act. shielded | VT : 150 - 400 K |
Due to the remarkable band width of 20 MHz of the digital reciever unit (DRU), this spectrometer suites best the requirement for static ²H NMR experiments. It is placed in room 0.114 together with the 500 MHz NMR spectrometer described below.
The 500 MHz Wide Bore System
The 500 MHz
NMR system is controled by a Bruker DSX console with analog and digital phase shifter. Tripple resonance experiments
are feasible on this maschine and all channels (¹H, X and Y) are equipped with 1 kW linear amplifiers. Though, the
magnetic field is not to strong, it is sufficient to provide some resolution in dense proton systems under fast magic
angle spinning conditions. In combination with heteronuclear correlation experiments, partially disordered systems as well
as supramolecular architectures are studied on this system.
| Probe | Frequency Range | Temperature Range |
| 2.5 mm MAS ¹H/F-X | 1-H .. 19-F; 31-P .. 15-N | VTN : 230 - 400 K |
| 2.5 mm MAS ¹H-X-Y | 1-H; 13-C; 2-H | VTN : 230 - 400 K |
| 4 mm MAS ¹H-X | 1-H; 31-P .. 15-N | VTN : 200 - 400 K |
| 4 mm MAS ¹H-X-Y | 1-H; 13-C; 29-Si | VTN : 200 - 400 K |

| 7 mm static ¹H-X | 1-H; 63-Cu .. 15-N | VT : 200 - 500 K |
| 5 mm static X | 31-P .. 109-Ag | VT : 200 - 500 K |
For variable temperature measurements under static or MAS conditions, heat exchanger operating with liquid nitrogen as well as a modified Julabo F 83 ultra-low cooling circulator are available in the lab.
The 700 MHz Standard Bore System
The 700 MHz
spectrometer is controled by a Bruker Avance console for double resonance experiments. The rf signals for the ¹H
channel are amplified with a 1.5 kW cavity amplifier, which provides great stability but requires phase and amplitude
switching times up to 1 µs. RF signals in the range from 10 to 300 MHz are amplified using a 1 kW linear amplifier.
The system is mainly used to obtain sufficient chemical shift resolution in dense proton systems as well as for hetero-
nuclear correlation experiments, both based on cross polarization and on REDOR methods.
| Probe | Frequency Range | Temperature Range |
| 2.5 mm MAS ¹H-X | 1-H; 13-C .. 15-N | VTN : 230 - 400 K |
| 2.5 mm MAS ¹H-X | 1-H; 31-P .. 13-C | VTN : 230 - 400 K |
| 2.5 mm MAS ¹H-X | 1-H; 31-P .. 15-N | DVT : 230 - 400 K |
| 4 mm MAS ¹H-X | 1-H; 29-Si .. 87-Ru | VTN : 230 - 400 K |

| 4 mm static X | 1-H .. 15-N | VT : 200 - 500 K |
The 700 MHz system is located in room 0.222. For variable temperature measurements under MAS conditions, a modified Julabo F 83 ultra-low cooling circulator is available in the lab.
The 850 MHz Standard Bore System
The 850 MHz system is our newes NMR spectrometer with a brand new Bruker Avance II+ console. The console is
equipped for tripple resonance experiments with a 1 kW linear amplifier for 850 MHz and two 1 kW amplifiers
for RF amplification in the range from 10 MHz to 400 MHz.
Due to the substantial spatial requirements of the pumped magnet system, the 850 MHz system is located in
a separat lab building, next to new office building of our institute. The strong magnetic field of this
spectrometer is of particular interest for the investigation of hydrogen bonded systems, such as supra molecular
architectures and functional materials.
| Probe | Frequency Range | Temperature Range |
| 2.5 mm MAS ¹H-X | 1-H; 13-C .. 15-N | DVT : 230 - 400 K |
| 3.2 mm MAS ¹H-¹³C-²H | 1-H; 13-C; 2-H .. 15-N | DVT : 230 - 400 K |
The 2.5 mm MAS ¹H-X double resonance probe is suitable for NMR experiments under fast MAS conditions, whereas the 3.2 mm MAS ¹H-¹³C-²H triple resonance probe provides a better sensitivity, due to the bigger sample volume and the optimized resonance frequencies.
